The DOS version should work all right.  Be sure and set:

HW_TIMER = OFF
INT_DURING_IO = ON
IDLE_SECONDS = 0
IDLE_SENSITIVITY = 15
VIDEO_FASTPASTE = OFF
VIDEO_MODE_RESTRICTION = CGA
VIDEO_ON_DEMAND_MEMORY = ON
