Plip does work and I have successfully used it with jnos and linux however
it does not offer the performance you would expect. I also ran into problems
getting it to work. It turns out that all parallel ports do not impliment the
status of the undefined status register bits 0,1,2 if my memory serves me
correctly. I had to write a small program to monitor the port while I sent
data to it and then hack the driver to match what it was expecting to see.
My advice is to pick up a pair of cheap ethernet cards, you won't regret
it.
