We were connected to wolrd's internet through 4 or 5 NET-based routers
and we could PING to wolrd's internet nodes, is this the information
which you need ? I am a beginner in understanding TCP/IP and I don't
know if ICMP Redirects is necessary to get reply for PING (which uses
ICMP protocol) (possibly not: may be a router forwarding PING packets
and no other ICMP-s, but what reason to make such a router treating
differently Echo Request/Reply and other ICMP-s could anyone have?).
Now one (or more, possibly) of these routers are replaced by cisco.
We can send mail, but cannot ping, telnet, ftp and all of that. :-(
