This is to announce the beginning of a project to begin a publicly open
development project with the goal of developing new network firmware for the
existing base of TNC-2 compatible TNCs. The result of this development
will be covered in the GNU General Public License (GPL) and will be freely
available.
For those of you NOT familiar with the GPL, a copy can be obtained by
anonymous ftp at ftp.lantz.com:/pub/gpl.txt.
The goal is to involve as many different individuals in the specifications,
development, and documentation as possible. While this project MAY choose to
remain backwardly compatible with some existing network firmware, this is
NOT a given. The development group will determine this.
All effort will be made to make the majority of the base code as portable
as possible to encourage it's integration into xNOS and other
computer-based solutions.
A mailing list has been created in support of this development. To join this
mailing list, send a message to "listserv@lantz.com" and in the body of the
message, just include one line (with no signature) of:
add tnc-tng or
add email-address tnc-tng
Use the first form of the command if the email address you send from is
where you wish the subscription to be sent. Use the second form to send to
another address or alias, but PLEASE make sure that the email address is
complete and valid.
There is plenty to do for both programmers and non-programmers, so please
feel free to join in.
